We are delighted that Istanbul Airport, the largest airport in Europe in regards to the number of passengers, is the first airport in Turkey to join the Sunflower as part of adopting the "everyone has the right to travel" principle.

"The Sunflower allows our employees to notice and support our guests with invisible differences such as autism, dementia and anxiety. Living with invisible differences can lead to people to come across specific challenges on a daily basis. The failure to recognize these difficulties encountered by individuals from the outside, may also result in preconceived opinions in many areas. The Sunflower lanyard makes visible those who have invisible differences, thereby helping others to recognize that they may need more assistance, support or time. Our guests who have invisible differences and need further assistance, support and time can request their Sunflower lanyard free charge at any information desk at Istanbul Airport."

In January 2022, Istanbul Airport was awarded the "Accessible Airport" at the "17th ACI Europe Awards" organized by the International Airports Council (ACI Europe) as part of the “17th ACI Europe Awards”.

Istanbul Airport received the award as a result of the accessibility culture and barrier-free airport concept it has created since its design stage. The Sunflower Lanyard is one the services that the airport provides alongside special passenger service points that were built on the land and airsides of the terminal, video call center, Loud Steps, and adult changing rooms. This is in addition to meeting all the accessibility standards with Priority Entrance, Accessible Elevator, Vehicle Parking Points, Accessible Route, Very Special Guest Card.
